]]>Started in Southern California in 1998, Loungefly created licensed fashion accessories for all ages. Funko later acquired Loungefly in May 2019 after a number of years trying to strike a deal. Funko Europe was building up momentum at this stage having brought the European head office to the UK a few years prior. This was a perfect time to launch Loungefly backpacks UK.
Loungefly bags and purses have always been focussed on character licenses such as Disney, Marvel, Pokemon etc but with Funkos HUGE range of licenses the two companies have made a perfect match.
Funko have always be great at making things popular are sort after, they have a great way of making their products super desirable. So why are Loungefly backpacks and purses so popular?
Most Loungefly items are limited edition so only have an initial run, so once they sell out you can no longer purchase them. They are discontinued and move on to different designs. This makes Loungefly bags highly collectable and at times very sort after.
Due to this most people who buy Loungefly backpacks and wallets don’t always use them for their intended purpose. A lot of people just collect them and put them on display due to their Collectable nature.
While the range of designer bags and wallets focuses on licensed characters there is a Loungefly bag out there for everyone, or three or four. Most collectors have a wall full of different bags and characters mostly never used and just for display. The bags are so colourful and fun and make you happy to own them.
Lots of Loungefly bags are exclusive to selected retailers. Which means you can only buy these at set shops or websites. One of the best places to find exclusive Loungefly bags is in Disney parks.
Loungefly Disney parks exclusives are one of the most popular souvenirs you can pick up on you holiday. Disney collectors have become gripped, and Disney Loungefly is probably one of the most popular franchises Funko design.
You can also buy exclusive products from some big online retailers. Who knows one day we might even have our own Loungefly exclusive.
As per the above there are lots of place that sell Loungefly products but lots of these are online. It’s always good to have a closer look at Loungefly bags.
If you are local to our shop you can pay us a visit, we have lots of different Loungefly backpacks & purses on show. From Disney to Star Wars, Marvel to Pusheen we also have 1,000’s of Funko POPs in our shop too. So while you look for you new bag your friends can have a look through our other collectables.
There are also lots of other independent gift shops that sell Loungefly bags. A great place to find lots all in one place is via comic cons. There are often a number of sellers exhibiting different designs at these sort of events. It’s a great place to have a plethora of choice.
Since Funko bought Loungefly these bags and accessories have become more mainstream. You can still get rare Funko Loungefly backpacks, ones that are design in limited numbers.
But one of the best ways to find a rare Loungefly bag is to look out for the metal plaque. When Funko acquired Loungefly they added the iconic Funko crown to the logo. Pre 2019 bags didn’t used to contain the crown, instead they often had a heart instead. Some of the original Disney bags go for over £1000.
Another thing to look out for is an upside down Loungefly plaque, sometimes these are made the wrong way around and these bags are obviously quite rare.
All Loungefly backpacks UK are unisex so anyone can own or wear them. There are some that are very colourful and princess themed and aimed at a feminine audience. But most are unisex and some aimed more for the male market.
There are lots of ways you can display your Loungefly collection, most people go for a cube shelving design. You can find these shelves in Ikea, the Kallax bookcases are perfect as you can fit one bag in each cube.
Other people go for a hook system, you can buy stick on hooks for walls in most DIY stores. Make sure you measure out the distance between each hook and try and keep everything level so that you display looks amazing.
The best place to store your Loungefly bags are in a dry place preferably out of the sun as UV rays can discolour your backpack. However you always want to show off you collection so it can be tricky. There are plastic cases you can buy which are UV protective, or you can keep in a cabinet with doors to block out the sun.
If your Loungefly gets dirty then the best way to clean is with warm water and a small amount of soap. Try to get none coloured soap and don’t use too much. Try to clean a hidden part of the bag first to make sure there are no issues, like the bottom of the bag or back of one of the straps. Don’t add too much pressure.

]]>We have created this blog to help out fellow Harry Potter collectors here in the UK. If you’ve always loved the Harry Potter movies and books but are completely new to the world of collecting or maybe you have a small collection but want to know how to expand on it, then this article will help you become the ultimate Harry Potter collector.
Here at The Film Cell our love of Harry Potter started way back when the first book hit the shelves and the obsession of collecting really took off once the first movie hit the cinema and J. K. Rowling had only written the first few books. We were hooked! The first item in our collection was a Harry Potter wand brought years ago from a Comic Con in Milton Keynes (sadly not from Ollivander's in Diagon Ally, I'm still waiting for my letter). It became our new hobby, travelling around toy shops and Comic Cons here in the UK looking for new merchandise to add to our collection. It wasn’t always easy to find something new back then as there wasn’t loads around and Harry Potter merchandise wasn't what it is today.
In 2005 we decided to fill the gap in the market and started up our own business focusing on Harry Potter merchandise, we have been specialising in Harry Potter gifts and collectables ever since. During this time we have seen many different companies create fantastic new products lots of which are unfortunately no longer available, the companies that made these products have either lost the license or are sadly no longer in business. We’ve imported items from all over the world over the past 16 years and love discovering new products. So we are here to pass on what we know and have learnt, as collectors and as an independent Harry Potter shop.
It all comes down to 3 main points, your budget, what you like and how you want to display your collection. Collecting Harry Potter merchandise can be expensive but you can also collect on a budget depending on what range of collectables you go for. You can always as add more expensive things to your Birthday or Christmas gift lists and let someone else buy you the more pricy items.
Lets start with where you going to display your collection, do you have a cabinet in your room? Do you have a whole room devoted to Harry Potter? Maybe you want to theme your whole house...
If you have a cabinet to display your items things that come ready to display such as the Time Turner Necklace ADD IMAGE or Hedwig in her cage are ideal.
If you are theming a whole room how about a statement piece such as a broom ADD IMAGE or the Triwizard Cup
You could also start with a favourite Character, for example you could just collect Dobby merchandise and have a collection of Dobby statutes, plushies, POPs, figures and more.
There is no right or wrong answer to the above question. If you do buy something when you are starting out and a few years down the line you no longer want it in your collection, you can sell this on places like eBay or Facebook market place. Other collectors are always looking for products they can't find anymore.
With so much to choose from, we decided to break things down a little, so we have created a quick overview of each category below. Have a look through our website and see what draws your attention.
As discussed above we started off collecting Harry Potter wands in the early noughties, the props and replicas that you can buy from the movie franchise are just amazing. It is a hobby that suits any budget as there are lots of different style wands to chose from and hundreds of different characters wands to collect from Hermione Granger to Professor Lupin.
The different styles and manufacturers of wands means you can range from toy wands to wands that connect to smart phone apps. There are even mystery mini wands, wand necklaces, wand shaped pens, the list is endless.
Our personal favourites are the Noble collection wands. There are around 100 different characters to collect which come in all shapes and sizes. Selected characters also come with an amazing replica Ollivanders box to display them in.
If you are yet to buy your first Harry Potter wand there are a few things you should know. Noble have a several different versions available to suit any budget or collection. Firstly there's the toy/kids/cosplay version for around £12, these are made from plastic and come with a bookmark. Ideal for dressing up as your favourite character for World Book Day or for kids to play with and pretend to be their favourite character. These are more robust and made for playing with, though the design is not as accurate as the collectors versions.
So on to the collectors wands, these are made from resin and are a tad more expensive. These are made for display and to collect or if you are a professional cosplayer these are the wands for you. These wands are more accurate replicas based on the movies and come in official Ollivander's wand boxes, the display boxes come with a silk style material lining and velvet style inner. There are only a few of these available which include the main characters like Harry, Ron, Hermione, Dumbledore etc.
Just an added note, Noble did make others versions in the past but these are now discontinued and are harder to find. The discontinued versions include characters such as Narcissa Malfoy and Neville Longbottom. Due to them being discontinued these can be expensive and you will only find these on eBay or second hand sites.
However there are almost 100, what we call, character wands to collect. These still have an Ollivander's style box but the are created to display outside of the box. Each of these come with a metal name tag so you can display these easily in your collection, you can even purchase a number of wand displays and stands for these style wands WAND DISPLAY PHOTO. Both the Character and Ollivander's wands are around £30 to buy.
There is also a slight cheaper version of these wands available, these are exactly the same wands but they have different packaging. They don’t include a deluxe Ollivander's style box or the metal name tags. You just get the wand.
If that isn’t enough to get your head around there are also some exclusive wands that you can only buy in sets that come with fantastic themed wand displays. For example you can only buy Fred and George Weasley’s wands in this display set.
There are a number of wand displays and these can work out a tad cheaper than buying individually. These are a great way to buy wands if you are just starting out as some of these sets come with the main characters wands.
The Dumbledore Army wand set for example comes with Harry, Hermione, Ron, Ginny, Neville and Luna’s wands all for £134.99. Which works out at around £22.50 a wand but you also get an awesome wall mount to display these in. This style of Luna wand is currently only available in this display set. Though you can buy Luna's other wand separately.
The tri-wizard wand set is one of our favourites, this looks like it’s just come out of Ollivander's wand shop. With its wooden base and clear plastic cover it looks amazing in any collection and is so easy to display.

If you are not keen on Harry Potter wands or looking for something a bit different there are loads of other movie prop replicas to choose from. From the iconic Professor Slughorn's hourglass to Mad Eye Moody's flask. We have a huge selection of the very best available in store and online.
If you are looking to collect prop replicas first you'll need to decide if you want to display these items or if you would prefer items that you can use or carry with you.
Items such as Dumbledore's Deluminator are perfect for both displaying and using as a prop replica for cosplay. The Ravenclaw Diadem also can be worn but also comes with an amazing display box so you can add this to your shelves or cabinet when you’ve finished wearing it.
Another good item that you can display but is also functional are the Harry Potter chess sets. There are a number of styles available, the great thing with these chess sets is if you don’t quite finish your game you can have them on display until you get a chance to finish it off.
If you want to collect Harry Potter merchandise but you don’t want them to just sit on display, you want to use and show off what you have purchased. Then the homeware category is probably what you would be looking for.
There’s a huge range of Harry Potter gifts or collectables you can buy for your home or taking to the office or work or even school. Mugs are a great idea, you can use them again and again and they also look great on your desk.
There is so much choice, you can buy Harry Potter mugs that have an image of your favourite character or scene from the movie, your favourite quote, the Harry Potter logo or even a 3D sculpture of Hedwig. These also make great gifts.
Stationary is also a great useful item that you can use over and over, we have a range of Harry Potter wand pens available in store and online. We even have a replica of Tom Riddles Diary that you can use as a note book.
You can show everyone that you are a Harry Potter fan with the massive range of clothing that’s on offer. From full on cosplay outfits to lightning bolt earrings here’s a few wearable Harry Potter collectables you can add to your collection.
There are loads of T-shirt’s available, but one of our favourite collectables are the Funko POP Tee boxes. These are highly Collectable and you can either wear these in style or keep in the box as part of your collection.
Funko also have an amazing range of bags and purses from their Loungefly product range. These are super collectable and feature character themed collectables such as 3D Hedwig back packs or Hogwarts House purses. Each made to a super high standard, fully lined and sometimes with metal features around the zip.
There are loads of other manufacturers too, most supermarkets usually have a selection ranging from socks to pyjamas. These are usually cheap and mass produced so you wont get anything unique. Most independent Harry Potter specialists will specialise in more unique items of clothing, or higher quality garments.
There are loads of things that can help you turn your house into Hogwarts in no time. You could add simple or subtle touches like one of our Harry Potter marauders map rugs in your living room or maybe you’d like a platform 9 3/4 sign on your wall.
If you want to go all out then you can completely decorate your house with Harry Potter marauders map wallpaper that glows in the dark. Ikea have some great cabinets that are perfect for displaying your Harry Potter merchandise, from clear glass cabinets to billy bookcases it all depends on how you are planning your room to look.
If you have a set of Harry Potter books in your collection you might already have some worth a few pounds to display. First edition copies of the book can go for thousands, depending on which edition you have you could be reading a book worth from anything between £100 to £40,000+.
We often get asked this, or how can I tell if my Harry Potter book is valuable? There were a number of different Harry Potter books printed that either had misprints or were first editions before Harry Potter got really famous.
Just to give you a bit of history into the books. J. K. Rowling first went to 12 publishers before Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone was published in the late 90’s. None of the previous publishers showed any interest on the books until Bloomsbury finally agreed to produce 500 first edition hardback books. There were also 1000 paperback produced at this stage. This first book from the Harry Potter series is now the third best selling book of all time with around 140 million copies in circulation.
But how do you tell if you have a rare Harry Potter book and which Harry Potter editions are worth money?
One of the first things to check on the first few pages of your book is who the book is credited by. The first editions had the crediting of “Joanne Rowling” and not J. K. Rowling. Also the first edition first printing will have a print line that reads "10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1".
If you do have a first edition you need to keep this in good condition, it might also be worth buying a new copy to read so that you don’t damage your rare version.
There are so many things you could do with your collection, our customers often send in photos of how they have displayed their merchandise. It’s always great to see as everyone does something different.
One of our customers has devoted their downstairs toilet to Harry Potter with the Harry Potter wallpaper that you can buy and a loo seat that says "Ministry of Magic this way". They have shelves in the corner with all sorts of replicas and collectables and metal signs on the wall like the Gryffindor Common Room sign.
Another of our customers has turned their hallway and stairs into a Harry Potter shrine. With the various wall displays we have on offer and posters and photos up the stairs.
We have a bit of knowledge ourselves in creating Harry Potter displays as we turned one of our rooms in our shop into a Dickensian Diagon Alley theme. You can do as little or as much as you like. We created cabinets out of MDF and gave these a gothic style frame and we used brick effect wallpaper as our back drop.
The possibilities are endless.

There are also big chains and supermarkets that offer discounted products every now and then. So you can sometimes pick up some real bargains. You don’t get the personal touch that an independent gives you and they probably won’t have any knowledge of the product also you can’t guarantee they will have stock again. We also have sale events online and discount days in the shop every so often so make sure you keep your eyes on our social pages.
It’s best to find and regularly visit your local independent as they are more knowledgeable about what they offer and have can advise you on anything new that will be arriving. Plus you get to help out a small shop and keep their business alive.

If you are a friend or family member that doesn’t live with said Harry Potter fan then when you are next visiting their home, ask them if you could see their Harry Potter collection and take mental notes. You could ask them what they are looking to add to the collection next. After all, every Harry Potter fan likes to show off their collection.
Another good idea is to ask whoever is living with them to do some digging and any find out what they would like next or don’t already have. Most Harry Potter collectors have a list.

The limited edition Sloth Funko POP vinyl is one of those figures that some can only ever hope to get in their collection. Sloth was made available as a standard Funko POP figure which is now vaulted but a limited edition version was available at San Diego Comic Con in 2014.
This is an extremely rare Funko POP so we thought that we would show you pictures of this amazing figure out of its box.
If you do own this Sloth from the Goonies then you are one of just 2500. There was a very limited amount of these ever made and at the time of writing this you would be looking to pay around £350 for this figure.
So what’s all the fuss about?
This was part of my personal collection and feature Sloth wearing his Superman t-shirt.
Above you’ll see a couple of close up pictures, featuring the special edition superman t-shirt. The iconic face of Sloth, you can just hear this figure shouting out, Hey-You-Guys!!!

]]>As part of our out of box series of blogs we have taken this Venomised Groot POP out of it’s box to give you a closer look. We take Funko POPs out of their boxes so you don’t have to. We are massive fans of Groot here at The Film Cell and when Funko announced this amazing 10” Funko POP we just couldn’t wait to get this out of its box. The first thing that has to be said is these super sized POP Vinyls are amazing, it gives Funko the chance to put even more detail into their figures. And this Groot doesn’t disappoint.
We took the standard sized Venomised Groot out of the box too just to give you an idea of size and scale. Both of these POPs have great detail, however there are a couple of differences between the 2 version.
The big 10” Groot obviously has more detail, both versions feature mini Venomised Groots growing from the right arm. The super sized version is so much more detailed than the 3.75” version. Check out the images below where we’ve compared the two.

Above we take a closer look at the green tongue with Venomised green goo from the 10 inch version of the Groot POP. The standard sized figure doesn’t contain the tongue and just features Venom style mouth and teeth.
The above two images show you the side and rear view. Having looked at both of these POPs they both look amazing out of their box but if we had to choose between the two I personally would have to go for the 10” version.
I’m running out of space as these take up so much room, but if you are on a budget and want to collect the whole set then the standard size version is great value for money and there’s not a huge difference in the two designs. If I had to pick one, I would go for the ten inch version, because of the fantastic detail Funko have put into it.
]]>This blog has been created to give you an overview of Funko POP collecting in the UK. If you're completely new to the world of vinyl figures or if you haven’t yet started your collection, but you want to know a bit more about buying, this page should help you become the ultimate Funko POP collector in no time.
Funko POPs UK has been going for longer than you would think, the company was founded way back in 1998. A collector of toys called Mike Becker came up with the idea after looking for a specific product and not finding it, and so Funko was born.
The first product Funko ever made was a Big Boy coin bank (see image below). Sadly these didn’t take off as they had hoped and the company almost went bankrupt. Thankfully they had the idea to start creating bobble heads and this is where the company really started to take off.
After gaining the rights to make licensed Austin Powers bobble heads the business started to grow and sold around 80,000 of their first figure. The licensed products were a huge hit and they expanded on this by adding titles such as The Grinch and many more. Mike Becker had always had a love of ad icons and bobble heads such as Tony the Tiger and other well know US food brands were added to the ever growing range.
In 2005 Mike sold Funko to Brian Mariotti. His main focus was to grow their range of licensed merchandise and so the the first Funko POP Vinyl figure was born. The first POP was a classic Batman figure which was released at San Diego Comic Con in 2010.
There has since been 1,000’s of other characters produced in the highly successful POP vinyl format over the decade that followed.
Funko probably has one of the biggest range of licenses in the toy industry and continues to make 100's of different characters ever year. Surely it's only a matter of time before they bring out a Del Boy POP Vinyl, right!
When people come into our shop one of the questions we get asked the most is "how many Funko POP Vinyls have been made?". As I’m writing this Funko have produced over 13,000 different items, which is a staggering amount of products.
Dorbz, Mystery Minis, Hikari, Fabrikations, Mopeez, Rock Candy and the list goes on.
But let’s stick to Funko POP vinyl figures, there are various different sizes but the standard 3.75 inch version is the original and by far the most popular. They have created 6 inch, 9 inch (which has now been taken over by 10 inch), and recently 18 inch versions.
There are also POP rides which feature characters with vehicles, for example Batman with his Batmobile. Movie moments have also been a recent edition to the POP brand featuring everyone's favourite scenes like Luke and Leia in the trash compactor.
With more and more lines being produced every year. There are usually some big announcements at the UK and US Toy Fairs, where Funko tend to release new products to retailers that have accounts. Unfortunately this year the Toy fair was cancelled due to Covid but last year we attended. Funko launched their range of Soda Cans for example in 2020 and we think they are awesome. Look out for more on these coming soon!!
Many of you will have noticed that the Marvel and Star Wars range of POP figures are actually bobbleheads while all other ranges are just figures. This was originally because other toy manufacturers had the vinyl figure license, so Funko had to make these characters bobble but still keep the same look as the original POP figures.
Most people start their collection with their favourite TV, movie or gaming character. Other collectors get bought a Funko POP as a gift. If you have seen or heard about them but want a bit more info before you buy your first POP vinyl then you have come to the right place.
It can be easy to get carried away when you first start collecting, our advice is to not buy in every character you see in the early stages. We suggest sticking to a theme of characters at first then try to finish that set before you move on. We have seen lots of collectors go on a buying frenzy when they first start out and almost all of them regret buying in something, often they end up selling these to free up space for POPs they actually want to keep.
There are thousands of Funko POP vinyl figures on the market, you couldn’t possibly collect them all. Start out with a small collection of figures, maybe you love the 80's POPs as they bring back nostalgia, something like Masters of the Universe.
I would probably steer clear of trying to collect the full set of Star Wars or Disney For example at the beginning as the range is so huge you probably won’t ever get your hands on all of them. Especially the rarer ones that have been discontinued.
If you really want to collect Disney or Star Wars POPs, try picking a specific area like the Mandalorian and complete that set before you move onto other titles or limit yourself to just the main characters like all the all the stormtroopers or all the sith lords.
Collecting Funko POP's can get slightly addictive, especially when you find that rare POP at a good price and you check the going price on eBay to realise you have a picked up a bargain.
Funko POP vinyl's are everywhere at the minute, there are loads of places that sell Funko POPs from local supermarkets to specialist toy and collectors shops like our store The Film Cell. Big supermarkets often have some good deals as they buy in bulk but their selection is usually very poor. They tend to stick to mainstream POPs and things that are popular at that point in time. They often stock sale items which is great, but it's often POPs that Funko are trying to clear as they haven't been as popular as first thought. So the chances are you might not find your favourite character in a big store.
However there are hundreds of independent toy shops like us, The Film Cell, that sell Funko POPs. We have been selling POP Vinyls for many years now. Just to give you an idea, we have over 1,000-2,000 different Funkos in stock at any time and that numbers is ever increasing, some that have been vaulted and discontinued, others that are rare US exclusives from previous years comic cons for example that are no longer available. You probably want to build up a relationship with your local POP shop so if there is something specific you are looking for they can help you get your hands on it. Just be aware, Funko release dates do change and sometimes can be released months after the original dates advertised. Also as soon as you hear about them contact your local store, if you wait until new POP's have been released there might not be enough to go around and you will either miss out or end up paying more on marketplaces.
We also trade, swap and buy in collections from time to time, so an independent store is a great place to find some of the older POPs that you can't find anywhere else.
Another great place to purchase Funko POP vinyls is at comic cons, there are a number of traders that travel around the country exhibiting at cons and events. We are one of them here at The Film Cell. We exhibit at all the major Comic Cons all around England, Scotland and Wales. Here is a photo of our stand at a recent event to show what sort of items we take to these events.
MCM London is a great event to attend if you collect Funko POPs as Funko themselves often exhibit and have UK exclusives at the convention. Traders like us will take all their best stock with them, just get there quick as these sell out fast at big events.
Many of the original Funko POP vinyls were made in limited numbers and when they sold out Funko then moved onto another character and discontinued this line. The first Funko POP's produced in 2010 was a series of 3 released exclusively for San Diego Comic Con, these included Batman, Batgirl and Green Lantern (see picture below).
There were only 480 Batman POPs made, 240 Batgirl and 240 Green Lantern. These are currently selling from between £1000 to £1500 each, with the most expensive being the Green Lantern.
However these are not the most expensive POPs you can buy, currently the most expensive and sort after would probably be Disney’s Dumbo in clown disguise. This was limited to just 48 worldwide and only available at San Diego Comic Con in 2013. You probably won’t find this in any shop but if you do want to purchase one of these for your collection you will be looking at around $7,000.
This is closely followed by Planet Arlia Vegeta from DragonballZ which was released as a New York Comic Con exclusive in 2014 for Toy Tokyo. This has sold for up to $4000 in the past few years.
When Funko started making POP vinyls you would probably see runs of between 1 to 2 thousand of each character. These days the standard mainstream and non exclusive figures are mass produced, so the chances are, if you're buying a POP from a supermarket it’s not going to be rare or have much value in the future. So just buy them because you like the character. You need to be looking for exclusives and ones that have limited runs if you want you collection to grow in value.
There are still a lot of rare Funko POPs out there that either collectors are selling or independent shops still have on their shelves. For example, we recently found a couple of cases of the Blue Mater which was made for New York Comic Con in 2015 in our warehouse. This was limited to just 1,500 pieces worldwide where a very limited amount were offered out to the UK after the event had finished. These were originally £15-£20 however these have recently shot up to around $55 and are still increasing in value.
The earlier release POPs are also still rare however these tend to be only found online or again in independent shops if they still have stock kicking around. As soon as Funko discontinue their POP figures they move into what's called the Vault. Funko then removes this from production. This makes way for a new lines and new versions of that character.
A good example is Spider man, there have been a number of Spider man movies, he also features in the Avengers and video games. The first Spider-man POP character was made at a time where Funko wasn't mass producing figures. Then a new movie came out so they stopped production on the first figure and created a new design to keep up with demand. This first figure is now sort after for completests but as it can't be bought in stores it pushes the prices up as it can only be bought from someone who has it in their collection and is willing to sell it.
Another example is the Thing from Fantastic Four, this was one of the first Marvel POPs to be released and has been vaulted for a few years now. They even brought out a Black and White exclusive version limited to just 480 the same year but the original non exclusive is still worth more. They have recently brought a new version of the Thing which will be available in stores from £10-£15.
You will have seen many exclusive Funko POPs online and in-store with an exclusive sticker. There are a few types of stickers to look out for. Most of these mean the same thing, that they are limited in number. We are going to talk through a few of those stickers now so you have more of an understanding of what you should be looking for.
These are usually exclusive POPs that are made for release at comic cons, there are a number of big events that feature exclusive POP vinyls. You will have seen us talk about San Diego Comic Con and New York Comic Con, these are the two big US events. However there are others like Emerald City Comic Con and Dallas in the US, you may also have noticed a few UK comic con exclusives at London MCM over the past few years.
Comic con exclusives are usually limited in number, extras are sometimes made that are sent out to retailers across the rest of the world to give international collectors a chance to pick up these exclusive POPs. These usually come with what's known as a summer exclusive sticker, which resembles the con sticker but it is a way of differentiating them from the con exclusive.
Does this mean they are still rare? They can be but some collectors pay more for the original release sticker.
We still have previous years comic con exclusive POPs in stock on our website and in our shop so you can still pick these up from independent stores. We also get offered exclusives from US events, these are usually very limited when they hit the UK so make sure you follow us on Facebook to see all the latest figures we are offered.
Some Funko POP figures are exclusive to certain stores in the US. The main companies in America that get exclusives are Hot Topic, Barnes and Noble, Box Lunch, Target, Walmart, and Amazon each have their own sticker design. These are sometimes offered out to the rest of the world as limited runs, you will probably have seen the silver exclusive sticker. These tend to appear in Europe when a US exclusive comes over to the UK.
These store exclusives tend to cost a tad more as they are usually a limited run and Funko add a premium on these which is why they are usually around £5 more than standards.
Chase figures are usually found in limited numbers, for example 1 in 6 or 1 in 36 will usually contain the chase sticker and has a slight variation to the standard. In the early days Funko would make 1 in a case of 36 POPs metallic or glow in the dark so for every 1,080 made there would be 30 chase figures.
These days Funko have started to offer chases in a 1-6 ratio and sometimes are completely different designs. You can sometimes find these in shops but these go pretty quick so are harder to find. Some independent shops offer these at a slightly higher price to give real collectors a chance to pick up a limited edition. This helps stop flippers hiking up prices (we talk about what a Flipper is below).
Flipper is a term for someone who buys a Funko POP solely with the intent to sell this on for a quick profit. Some collectors don’t like flippers as they try to get hold of limited edition figures first before they hit the shelves and sell them for double the price.
However some flippers can get hold of items that you wouldn’t be able to get elsewhere, often they wait up until 2am when the US or International companies release specials and get on line straight away to order before they sell out.
They then sell these POPs to the UK collectors. Any money they make usually pays to cover the cost of international delivery or their Funko POP habit, as they buy multiples and keep one for them self.
There are a number of benefits to taking your POPs out of the box, firstly some POP designs are amazing and the back of the figure never gets seen. There are sometimes some great detail on the Funkos which if you left in the box you won’t ever get to see.
Also if you do display POPs out of their box on a shelf you can fit a lot more in the space you have, if you displayed them in the box however you can stack POPs on the top of each other and this might help you display even more on your shelves. If you decide to become an out of box collector but you are not sure if you’ll ever want to sell your collection, you will need to store the box in the attic or somewhere out of sunlight. You will also need to display your collection out of sunlight so they don’t fade. The good thing about Funko packaging is there usually isn't any tape on the boxes so as long as you open the boxes carefully you can remove your POPs and put them back without causing any damage.
If you do become an out of box collector you will be able to pick up some real bargains for your collection. A lot of collectors only collect POPs that have boxes in mint condition, a lot of the toy sellers receive boxes of damaged POPs and have to put them in the reduced section. This is where being an out of box collector comes in handy.
There are a few different ways in which you can protect your rarer and harder to find POPs. Your first option are thin plastic cases, a lot of these come in different sizes so you can protect your 4 inch, 6” and two packs. Make sure you get acid free protectors from a reputable company as some protectors can stain the box. These are usually a few pounds.
You can also buy Hard stacks for your POP figures, these are from Funko and are a little more robust. These are clear and made from a thicker plastic but are more likely to keep your rare POP vinyls from harm. These are more expensive around the £10 mark, but if you have a really rare Funko you are going to want to invest in these for your collection.
Most collectors whether you are an in box collector or out of box collector display their vinyl figures on shelves. One of the most popular shelving units to buy are the Ikea Billy Bookcases which you can get in a variety of sizes. Other collectors build their own shelves that go around their TV units in the man cave or around the desk in their bedroom. If you do want to keep the dust away from you collection most people opt for a glass display cabinet so you can still see your collection but its safely tucked away behind glass doors.
Some take them to work and display them around their computer area or on their dashboard in their lorry. We have done a number of blogs based around how our customers display their collections so make sure you read these too.
In my opinion by the characters that make you happy, collecting Funko's should be fun and sometimes the hunt for a rare POP is just as fun as finally getting your hands on it.
It can be easy to get carried away with POPs and they can become very addictive. If you are starting out its a good idea to stick to building up one collection. If you like Star Wars try to collect all the Jedi first or if you are a Harry Potter fan try to collect all the characters from Gryffindor. When you get a bit further down the line you can start to expand and look out for older and rarer items.
One word of warning, as soon as some exclusive Funko POPs are released there can be a lot of hype with items going out of stock with retailers. These will then make their way onto online marketplace stores for silly money, you may be tempted to spend a fortune on a POP to complete a set. More often than not these prices do go back down in value so just be careful how much you are willing to pay for a Funko.
If you do buy a rare POP then make sure you buy an acid free protector preferably a hard stack to make sure the box stays in brilliant condition. Then enjoy displaying these POPs in your collection.

Firstly I want to stress how awesome the 10 inch Deadpool POP is, we love the 10” Funko’s here at The Film Cell but this one is on another level.
Like all the other Marvel Funko POPs this version is also a bobble head, you should see the spring under the head on this thing, it’s like a bed spring!!! It really is an awesome piece and if you a Marvel fan you will not be disappointed with this.
I'm not a fan of the 10th year anniversary chrome Marvel POPs, so I was unsure about this one being gold. I actually thinks the Deadpool 10” version has been done very well, but if you are not a fan then there is a standard red 10 inch Deadpool POP available.
So let’s take a look at this awesome oversized POP vinyl.
This is the side that all in box collectors never get to see. When the head bobbles it looks great from the back too.
The Gold detail on the paint work looks great the contrast between the two shades makes it an awesome collectable.
